From Liverpool mercury March 22nd 1833 Dreadful accident-child burnt to death
On Monday afternoon the daughter of Mr SIDLER collector of taxes, Tranmere
Cheshire was left in a room where a fire had recently been laid, and went out
with a candle to procure a light to kindle the fire: she placed the lighted
candle under her pinafore to shelter it from the wind, and it is suposed
that her dress took fire by that means.
Her father who was sleeping upstairs,
was aroused by her screams and on awakening discovered her enveloped in
flames. She died a few minutes later. Her father was sadly injured in his
endeavors to save the little girl who was six years old and an only child
