His death was caused by an apparently trifling circumstance. As he was taking the hoods off a hattock in the field on the previous Monday morning, he felt as if he had pricked his thumb, and thinking it was done by a thistle he continued to work the whole day.
He found the pain increasing so rapidly that he applied to a surgeon on Wednesday, who ordered poultices, and administered bark: but all was of no avail, the pain and swelling spread from his hand up to his arm, mortification ensued, and he expired Sunday evening

Last week at Prescot, in this county John HASELDEN aged 87. He had served at the siege of Quebec, in the 15th regiment and was employed by the immortal WOLFE as his valet, until the death of the hero, when he entered the service of Gen. MURRAYwith whom he remained until his discharge in the year 1761, which discharge is under the hand of Gen. Sir P A IRVING Bart., then Major of that regiment.
Having been mason upwards of 60 years, and a member of the Lodge of Loyalty No 126, held in Prescot, his corpse was interred last Thursday, with masonic honours, by the brethren of that lodge, in testimony of their respect for a veteran and a brother
