Henry Carney, my great grandfather, from Co Mayo, was a soldier in the 15th Regiment of Foot
As sons of a serving soldier all five of his sons, my great uncles the Carney brothers,
Irishmen from Dublin, were educated at the Royal Hibernian Military School in Dublin
Following in their father's footsteps, Henry Carney's 5 sons joined the East Yorkshire Regiment.
Four of the brothers saw action during the Boer War. Five of them during the Great War.
One of the brothers died at home during the Great War period. He was seriously wounded at Ypres
The 5 brothers between them had 26 medals: 1 MC, 3 DCM, and 22 other medals
